Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is a antihistamine medication you can take for allergic reactions.

Dosing:

Adults:

Benadryl comes in a 25mg or 50mg tablets.

​

Adults can take up to 50mg of Benadryl every 6 hours, as needed:

  • i.e. take ONE of the 50mg tablets every 6 hours.

  • or, TWO of the 25mg tablets every 6 hours.

​

Children:

Children’s doses are based on their weight. Be sure you know your child’s weight.

“Children’s Benadryl Liquid” – contains 6.25mg of Benadryl per 5ml.

The doses recommended on the package is usually less than your child can actually take. 

​

The proper dose for children is: 

  • 1mg per kilogram body weight every 6 hours as needed.

  • Up to a maximum of 50mg per dose.

* please beware benadryl can cause drowsiness - avoid driving if feeling drowsy.

- alternatively take to pharmacist or your physician about other options that are non drowsy
